In case you decide for individual micro-inserts, you are quite flexibel with regard to the choice of insert type (pls. see table below) and of the corresponding vial (vial type, with/without label + filling lines, etc.). In addition usage of vials and inserts as separate components is quite cost-effective. However, filling of such small containers is unhandy and fraught with risk. In case you hold the insert in your gloved hand during filling, it is not easy to do so due to its small size, even more so, as you still have to put it into the vial afterwards. On the other hand, if you first insert the micro-insert into the vial, filling has to be carried out very carefully and pinpointedly, as the insert is not firmly fixed. As the vial bottom is always a little bit convex shaped, inserts without fixation or spring might slide with their tip out of the bottom center, while being centered only in the neck.
Safe removal of the insert from the vial is only possible with the insert with plastic spring. This type of insert furthermore has the advantage that the insert with the sample is firmly pressed against the septa and thus an excellent sealing of the sample is guaranteed. It also absolutely centers the insert inside the vial by spreading the plastic feet of the spring against the vial’s glass walls as soon as the vial is sealed. Should the needle nevertheless get into contact with the glass walls, the spring ensures a shock-absorbing effect and thus prevents possible damage to the needle and / or glass breakage.
Pre-assembled vial-insert combinations are also available as ready-to-use units with 100 pcs. per PP box. However, here micro-vials with firmly integrated inserts may even be more advantageous.
