Three students from the vocational school Uerdingen asked themselves, if the heavy metal exposure near by country roads is higher than further away. For this purpose they analyzed soil samples with the aspect of heavy metal exposure through traffic.
The group collected soil samples from roadside in their home to analyze them of its iron, copper, zin and lead. In the first step the collected samples were dried, shredded and mixed with distilled water to examine qualitatively for these metals with spectroscopy. For this purpose MACHEREY-NAGEL supported the students with test kits from our product range. The first results are promising. All four metals can be detected. In the following reference samples will be prepared, to have a better interpretation of the results.
We wish them a lot of fun and good luck with the further analyses.
